Is Life Casting Safe?

Getting a life cast done is quite an exciting prospect. After all, who wouldn't want to have a three-dimensional copy of their own face, torso or even full body? A lifelike representation of your hands intertwined with a spouse/friends, pregnant belly or your newborn baby's feet can be especially thrilling.

But the exhilaration can often get dimmed as other realistic thoughts start creeping into the mind. And one of the most daunting fears is of the mold harming your face or body in any manner. The dread can make you instantly shelve any plans of getting a life cast of your child's hands or feet.

The reality is…

While the hesitation makes sense, it is largely unfounded. You can put your apprehensions to rest as the most commonly used mold making material for human bodies – alginate – is derived from simple seaweed! This ensures top quality safety as the alginate is non-toxic, non-allergenic and even biodegradable.

You will be surprised to know that this water-based alginate is what is commonly used by dentists for making teeth impressions and is in fact considered a food product!

For additional peace of mind, you can always insist on a patch test before going ahead with the life casting. The artist will check the alginate on a small area of your skin (generally wrist or other part of the hand) for any kind of reactions before going ahead with the body mold.

If your skin is especially sensitive, you can always opt for silica-free alginates available at EnvironMolds – https://www.artmolds.com/. It is gentle on the skin, gives a softer set and is ideal for casting babies and kids.
