MOULAGE is a rubber-like material used for taking impressions from life. Applied warm with a brush or palette knife, captures minute details for a negative mold. May be remelted and used over and over. No expensive equipment is necessary. Just heat Moulage slowly in a double boiler to 115°F (46°C). Do not use an aluminum pan or utensils as it will cause a chemical reaction that will ruin the Moulage. The mold may be cut up, remelted, and reused 50 to 100 times. Store molds in airtight containers to prevent drying out.
INSTRUCTIONS : Cook Moulage in a double boiler, stir frequently, add hot water if necessary to thin to heavy pancake batter consistency.; Apply Moulage to any surface that can withstand its temperature. No parting (release agent) compound is needed. It may be applied directly over hair; When making a mold of a given subject, cool the moulage to a temperature comfortable to the touch (115 deg.) On small objects the first coat may be applied with a bristle brush, subsequent coats with a spatula or flexible modeling tool; Moulage molds must be made rapidly as subsequent layers will not adhere to completely cooled surface.
Apply about 1/4-inch layer of moulage then smear 2 to 3-inch pieces of gauze with hot moulage and cover mold surface, then apply another coat of moulage; For best results make a plaster shell or mother mold over the moulage mold. If not using mother mold, build moulage up to 3/4 to -inch thickness and reinforce with wire screening. Moulage molds must be cast immediately as moisture evaporates and will result in shrinkage. Casting Materials, plaster, casting stone, posmoulage, wax may be poured into moulage molds. Parting compound is not necessary. Moulage improves with use and may be reused up to 100 times. Store Moulage in tightly sealed plastic bag between usage.
