Composi-Mold is new reusable mold making material that works by simply melting and pouring – all without the hassle of measuring, weighing or mixing. As a bonus, it can be re-melted and reused up to thirty five times. The resulting molds, created with this new material, can be used to produce numerous duplicate casts without noticeable degradation, the amount of reproductions per mold will vary depending on casting materials used, mold release, and technique employed.
Composi-Mold is a unique material that says, “The more you use me the more you save.” Simply place the container or containers in your microwave or a double boiler to heat it until it liquefies. Heating times of course vary depending upon the amount of material you are melting. For example, ten ounces, heat for one to two minutes, stirring every minute.
Then being careful (it is hot so wear gloves) pour it into your mold box over your model. Let it cool and viola, you have a flexible rubber mold.
Composi-Mold is offered in three different versions.
1-Composi-Mold-LT is the original version which is a soft flexible rubber when set similar to a Shore A 10.
2-ComposiMold-FC is a food grade material designed for casting edible materials such as chocolate and fondant. It complies with FDA regulations for food contact materials.
3-Composi-Mold-PowerMold is a firmer version with a Shore A 25, hardness at room temperature. It is recommended for use for molds requiring greater strength and for two part molds and is recommended for push molds. It works better for this technique so the casting isn’t warped when de-molding your cast.
Composi-Mold is a natural biodegradable material. All ingredients are organic and will degrade naturally over time. It is also may be composted. It similar to the special effects industry gelatin and glycerin formulas used to create facial prosthetics.
Composi-Mold is formulated for use with most popular casting materials such as CastRite, polyurethane, epoxy, polyester, wax, soap, plasters, silicone, concrete and chocolate and fondant.
Although the thermoplastic nature of Composi-Mold allows it to be reused and easily moldable, heat is its limitation. In larger thermoset reactions the heat of a casting material (think resins) can exceed 130O F which is the melting point of Composi-Mold. You should use a mold release for porous materials, but not if you are casting edibles. Vegetable oil is a great mold release when working with edible casting materials. However it is not typically necessary when casting with chocolate or fondant.
