Kinetic Sculpture Examples
Kinetic art is a term that today most often refers to three-dimensional sculptures and figures such as mobiles that move naturally or are machine operated. The moving parts are generally powered by wind, a motor or the observer. This form of sculpture combines a number of skills including engineering and artistic. Unlike stone carver where the basic tools are hammer and chisel, kinetic sculpture can be extremely technical often utilized computer CAD/CAM for design, laser cutting of of intricate parts tempered with extreme balancing and mechanical drives. Many of the examples shown here use the wind to power very large pieces of sculptural art pieces, while others use motors and still others are hand operated.
